English Premier League club Arsenal are looking to sign Victor Osimhen before the end of the January transfer window according to reports.
Mirror reported that Mikel Arteta’s side could face competition for the Nigerian international as Newcastle United are also making efforts to sign him.
The Gunners could go head-to-head with their Premier League rivals as Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is also on the radar of the Emirates’ club.
Further reports say the club will also attempt to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, but such a move seems to have hit the rocks because of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
Why Arsenal want Osimhen
This is coming as former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to be humiliated after being exiled from the first team as they head to Dubai for their mid-season training following Premier League’s winter break.
It was gathered that Arsenal are hoping to secure some funds by selling their former captain to purchase the transfer of Osimhen from Italian side Napoli.
The north Londoners are keen on the Nigerian international, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia, as Arteta looks to sign a striker this month after missing out on Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic.
Altobelli tells Napoli to replace Osimhen with Vlahovic
Following his recurrent injury problems since joining Italian side Napoli in the summer of 2020, Italian legend Alessandro Altobelli has told the club to look for Victor Osimhen's replacement.
Osimhen’s progress at the Serie A club has been plagued with a number of injuries, as covid-19 has also forced him out of action for several days on two occasions.
