Tension at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea defender holds club to ransom on new contract
- German defender Antonio Rudiger is demanding a contract worth over 45 million pounds for 4 years
- Chelsea are still continuing their efforts to try and persuade Antonio Rudiger to sign a contract extension at Stamford Bridge
- Rudiger's current deal expires at the end of the season and it is understood Bayern Munich and Barcelona are monitoring the German’s contract situation
German defender Antonio Rudiger has finally told Chelsea football club how much he is expecting to collect if he decides to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer.
The former Roma defender has demanded a hefty package worth 45 million pounds for 4 years according to Spanish news outlet Marca.
This deal is equivalent to £180,000 per week if spread across a five-year deal or £220,000 per week over four years.
Rudiger has been an influential member of the Blues backline since Thomas Tuchel took over the reins at Stamford Bridge and was instrumental in the Club’s Champions League success last season as Chelsea triumphed over Manchester City in the final.
The German’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and Chelsea are still optimistic the defender will commit to a new deal before the end of the season despite interest from major European clubs including Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
The Mirror reports Chelsea are reported to have offered Rudiger a new deal that would see him earn £135,000 per week, but such a sum would not put him near the top of the highest-earning players at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger currently earns a £100,000 per week, and fellow centre-back Thiago Silva recently agreed a one-year contract extension in west London on a similar amount.
