Kamara missed a late penalty on Thursday, January 20 to dent Sierra Leone’s chances of reaching the next round of the competition as Equatorial Guinea claimed a 1-0 victory to finish second in Group E.

Pablo Ganet's 38th-minute strike was enough to ensure victory for Equitoria Guinea but for Sierra Leone, they will be left wondering “What if”, as they would have gone through as the best third-placed finishers had they forced a draw.

In an engaging game, Sierra Leone were awarded a last-minute penalty but 20-year-old goalkeeper Jesus Owono was up to the task as he saved Kamara’s penalty, ultimately confirming Sierra Leone’s fate.

Taking to social media, Kamara shared a photo of himself in his national team colours with a bold message.

“This is the beautiful game. Make sure you give it your all and have no regrets. It was an honour to fly Sierra Leone here in Cameroon at one of the best tournaments in the world ,” he said.
“Mama Salone, I love you and thank you for the celebrations,”

The result meant Comoros Islands advanced to the knockout stages as the best third place finishers, thanks to their impressive 3-2 win over Ghana on Tuesday.

Police in Kamara’s home

Sportsbrief earlier reported about a harrowing situation that saw police deployed at Kamara’s house to quell irate fans, who were unhappy with his penalty miss.

Angry fans stormed the Freetown home of Kamara in their attempt to unleash mayhem, but security operatives were quick to respond.
