Irate fans have stormed the home of striker Kei Kamara for missing a penalty as Sierra Leone crashed out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Sierra Loaded reports.

The Lone Stars lost 1-0 to Equatorial Guinea in their final group game on Thursday night, and they will now return home.

Victory would have seen the team qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament, but they missed out as Pablo Ganet’s goal sealed the win for Equatorial Guinea.

How Sierra Leone lost

Sierra Leone got a chance to equalize which would, in all probability, have been enough to take them through as one of the best third-placed teams after Ganet brought down Issa Kallon in the box.

Kei Kamara stepped up to take the spot-kick, but it was saved brilliantly by goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

The game then degenerated as the Sierra Leone side lost their discipline as the match wore on, and Kwame Quee was sent off for a foul on Ganet.

Equatorial Guinea advanced from Group E in second place, behind Ivory Coast who beat Algeria 4-1.

It was gathered that angry fans stormed the Freetown home of Kamara in their attempt to unleash mayhem, but security operatives were quick to respond.

Algeria crash out of AFCON 2021

Reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria have bowed out of the 2021 edition of the tournament following their 3-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in their final Group E fixture.

The Desert Foxes needed nothing short of victory during the Thursday evening, January 20, encounter for a chance to progress to the next round of the continental tournament.

This is after they kicked off the competition on a frustrating note, managing just a point in two of their opening fixtures.

Nigeria face Tunisia in AFCON 2021 Round of 16

Sports Brief earlier reported that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will trade tackles with Tunisia in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Having emerged table toppers in Group D, Nigeria are billed to take on the third-placed Group F team as the Carthage Eagles occupied that spot after the final matches of the preliminary rounds are concluded on Thursday.

Tunisia finished the preliminary rounds with 3 points as they were defeated 1-0 by Gambia who finished in second position with 7 points in Group F, behind Mali who defeated Mauritania 2-0 to win the group with 7 points and a better goal difference.
