GFA President Kurt Okraku has no regret sacking C.K Akonnor, defends coach Milovan Rajevac

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, says the decision to sack Charles Kwablan Akonnor was the right one despite Ghana's AFCON disaster.

The GFA sacked Akonnor and replaced the former Ghana captain with Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac, which ended with the Black Stars having a poor Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

In an interview with Tv3, the FA boss revealed the association has no regerets letting C.K Akonnor leave.

"I don't regret it," he said when asked if he had second thoughts about the sacking of the ex-Ghana captain.

Meanwhile, Kurt Okraku went on to defend the appointment of Milovan Rajevac, explaining the Serbian tactician has been unlucky.

“It is also true that Milovan has had an unfortunate time with our Black Stars. Unfortunate in the sense that he has never had even four days uninterrupted to train this squad since he took over the ship,” he added.

The Black Stars were bundled out of the tournament at the group stages, the first time since 2006 in Egypt. Ghana also failed to win a single game at the tournament, their first in 23 appearances.

The Ghana Football Association has been summoned by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to answer questions over the team's failure at AFCON 2021.

According to the GFA boss, the 28 players sent to the tournament were the best the West African giants had around the world.

In an interview with Skyy Power FM, Mr Okraku threw the challenge to Ghanaians that if they know of a Ronaldo-and-Messi type player anywhere, he is ready to invite them. Read more:
