Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, has jumped to the defence of players selected to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

According to the GFA boss, the 28 players sent to the tournament were the best the West African giants had around the world.

In an interview with Skyy Power FM, Mr Okraku threw the challenge to Ghanaians that if they know of a Ronaldo-and-Messi type player anywhere, he is ready to invite them.

“The players who represented Ghana are the best players we have… if there is a Ronaldo or Lionel Messi type of player somewhere who will move straight to our first eleven, just let me know and I will include him,” he said on Skyy Power FM.

The Black Stars disgracefully bowed out of the 2021 AFCON at the group stages, the first time since 2006.

It was the worst performance by the four times African champions, having exited the tournament without winning a game.

The Ghana Football Association and the technical team have come under intense pressure, since the team's disappointing campaign.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has summoned the FA for an emergency meeting on Friday, January 22 to explain reasons for the team disastrous display.

The Black Stars are expected in Ghana on Thursday.

Sports Ministry summons GFA leadership

Government wants answers to the performances it describes as 'abysmal' following Ghana's first round exit at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

In a letter released by the sports ministry, it indicated all logistical and financial support were given to the team to warrant such result.
