FootballAFCON 2021: Match Preview - Black Stars eye Comoros scalp for a place in last 16
- The Black Stars of Ghana face debutants Comoros Island for a place in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations
- Ghana needs to beat the group C strugglers and hope other results favour them to reach the knockout stages
- Coach Milovan Rajevac remains positive ahead of the game on Tuesday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua
Four-time African Champions, Ghana, are on the brink of a shocking exit from the competition in Cameroon after a defeat and a draw in their opening two games.
However, a convincing win against Comoros Island, debutants at the competition, could hand the West African giants a life line.
Andre Ayew will be hoping his fine streak of form for the Black Stars continues, having scored five of the last 13 goals scored by Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.
His 18th minute opener against Gabon nearly secured the Black Stars all three points, until Jim Allevinah's 88th minute leveler. Ghana has conceded both goals in this year's World Cup in the final ten minutes.
This is the first time the Black Stars will be playing Comoros in the Africa Cup of Nations, though they met in a qualifier in 2015, where Ghana won 2-0, with Mubarak Wakaso and Jordan Ayew scoring for the Black Stars.
The return leg of that encounter ended in a stalemate.
Comoros have been the whipping boys of Group C, having lost 1-0 to Gabon and 2-0 to Morocco and they will become the fifth country to fail to score a goal in the group stages if they do not score on Tuesday.
Ghana won at least a game in all it's 22 appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The game will be played at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua, at 7 pm Ghana time.
