- Super Eagles gaffer Augustine Eguavoen stated that the team are missing these two players at the ongoing competition
- Without Ighalo and Osimhen, the Super Eagles have defeated Egypt and Sudan in their first two games in Cameroon
Augustine Eguavoen who is in charge of the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon has made it clear that the team are missing Ighalo and Osimhen.
After his failure to recover quickly for the African Cup of Nations, the Nigerian Football Federation named Peter Olayinka as Victor Osimhen's replacement in the Super Eagles squad.
Many Nigerian football lovers were even of the view that the Nigerian Football Federation should have dragged Napoli for not releasing Victor Osimhen for the AFCON.
And why is Odion Ighalo not available?
Al-Shabab refused to release Odion Ighalo for the AFCON in Cameroon claiming that it is not in the contract that the former Manchester United striker signed with them.
The club's chiefs stated that they can't afford to lose the Nigerian striker considering their quest to fight for the League title.
Who has been leading the attack for Super Eagles at AFCON?
In the two games Super Eagles have played so far at AFCON against Egypt and Sudan, Taiwo Awoniyi has been leading the attack and the former Liverpool player has netted one goal.
According to the report on Complete Sports and Daily Post, Eguavoen explained that Victor Osimhen and Odion Ighalo would have helped the team with more goals.
Augustine Eguavoen's statement
''Osimhen and Ighalo are two different players who can actually score two goals out of three chances. Awoniyi and Sadiq are two different type of players too.
“That’s not to say they can’t score goals. Awoniyi has been scoring goals in the German league and Sadiq as well.''
