FootballBruno Fernandes Involved in Tunnel Confrontation After Man United Draw vs Aston Villa
- Bruno Fernandes was unhappy with a situation involving Aston Villa's Emi Buendia
- Buendia appeared to have suffered an injury in the closing stages of the tie prompting a substitution
- However, Fernandes believes Villa should not have been allowed to bring in another player as they had exhausted their substitutions
- Steven Gerrard was given the option of making a fourth sub as Buendia was thought to have suffered a head injury
An angry Bruno Fernandes confronted the fourth official in the tunnel after Man United's disappointing 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday, January 15.
The Portuguese international was in fine form for United as he scored a stunning brace to give his side a 2-0 advantage.
However, the Red Devils were unable to see out the rest of the match as Villa staged a dramatic comeback to secure a draw at home.
Philippe Coutinho who recently linked up with Steven Gerrard at Villa Park on loan from Barcelona was the hero for the home side as he came off the bench to secure a point for the hosts.
Fernandes, however, feels the result was not a fair reflection of the game and contends his side was actually the better team.
The match was marred with incredible scenes towards the end as Villa's Emi Buendia went down injured as he clutched his shoulder.
The move meant the encounter went past its allocated stoppage time, with Fernandes contending Villa were trying to claim it was a head injury so they could take him off.
The United playmaker went on to confront the fourth official at full time in the tunnel to demand an explanation over the incident.
"I was asking the referee why they were making a fourth sub when Buendía was injured with his shoulder?" Fernandes posed.
"I think the doctor said that he had hurt his head and if there is a head injury, there needs to be a change. But come on, he hurt his shoulder and they cannot get another sub," he added.
