Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has taken a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments saying the Old Trafford club should be aiming for a top-three position in the league.
The Derby manager who was once teammates with Ronaldo at Manchester United insists the Red Devils should aim for nothing less than to win the league title and seal the top spot in England.
Manchester United have had a patchy season with the Old Trafford club currently out of the top six positions on the premier league table and this form has seen a change in manager with Ralf Ragnick coming in to replace former manager Ole Gunner Solksjaer.
Many pundits had tipped United to be one of the contenders for the league title this season after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus last summer but the Red Devils have seen that ambition fade away very quickly with the club now struggling to seal a Champions League spot for next season.
The Mirror report Ronaldo, who completed a sensational return to Old Trafford last summer, criticised United’s form in an interview earlier in the week and reiterated that he re-signed for the club to add to his trophy collection but would claim the club should aim for a top-three position this season.
However according to Man United Times, Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has disagreed with ex-teammate’s claim that the club’s target is to be a top-three team, insisting that United should be aiming at the first spot.
