Ahead of Nigeria’s opening Group D encounter with the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday January 11, captain Mohammed Salah has tipped the Nigerian national team as one of the favorites to win the AFCON.
Salah was speaking at the press briefing held on Monday January 10 ahead of the crucial encounter that will be crucial in determining which team will finish top of the group that also comprises of both Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
The Liverpool forward is expected to lead the Pharaohs out when Egypt take to the pitch against Nigeria on Tuesday and Salah admits the Super Eagles have enough quality players to go all out to win the tournament as reported by Pulse Sports.
"Nigeria have players to win the tournament, I am just one player in my team. I don't take questions and reactions personal. They have good players, but we will try our best to win tomorrow."
Salah has also belittled the Pharaohs’ chances of winning the Africa Cup of Nations Kingfut reports.
The Egyptian captain said it will be an honour to win his first continental trophy with the National team but admits they are not one of the favourites for the title.
“We are not the favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but we will do our best to reclaim the title,”
“I am only one of eleven players that represent Egypt. We will do everything we can to come on top in tomorrow’s match and in the tournament as a whole.
Salah has recently made a three-man shortlist for FIFA’s best men’s player of the year for 2021 alongside Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi.
