Aston Villa is reported to be in advanced talks to sign Everton left-back Lucas Digne.
The French defender has been frozen out of the Everton team following a falling out with manager Rafael Benitez and is now looking to ply his trade away from the Merseyside.
According to the Daily Star, the French defender will be joining Villa this week despite interests from from Chelsea, Westham and Newcastle with Steven Gerrard’s influence being key to beating the competition.
Villa are said to be offering a swap deal with winger Anwar El Ghazi being used as makeweight in the deal but Everton are only interested in a cash only deal for the transfer to pull through.
The Express reports Digne was against Benitez’s counter-attacking football as it limited his impact on the side which prompted a clash between both personalities.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle United coach had also taken the Frenchman off set-piece duties to the frustration of the Everton left-back.
In recent days the player has been linked with a move to West Ham and mega-rich Newcastle, as well as last season’s Champions League winners Chelsea but Digne is said to be in favour of a move to the west Midlands.
A deal of between £20million and £25m being touted as the amount Everton are willing to accept with Villa keen to wrap up the deal this week.
