Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been snubbed from this year’s L’Equipe’s team of 2021 after both players were left out with Egyptian Mohammed Salah topping the list.
Messi has had a slow start to life in France scoring just once in the league since making a summer transfer from Barcelona to PSG.
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo also failed to make the team despite scoring 14 goals in 22 games since returning to Old Trafford in August Sports Bible reports.
The list which was dominated by English-based players saw Chelsea having the most representation with Edouard Mendy, Ngolo Kante, and Jorginho making the list.
Liverpool and Manchester City both had two players on the list with Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander Arnold for the Reds while Manchester City duo of Kelvin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias represented the Citizens.
Karim Benzema of Real Madrid joins the likes of Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski, AC Milan’s Theo Hernandes, and Marquinhos of PSG to complete the line-up in a 4-4-2 formation.
Apart from Messi and Ronaldo, several other high-profile players to miss out on the place in the side, including the likes of PSG striker Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
