Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has thrown his support behind manager Thomas Tuchel over the German’s hard stance on indiscipline in the Chelsea squad.
Tuchel had recently dropped star forward Romelu Lukaku from his squad that faced Liverpool in a crucial Premier League game on Sunday, January 2, after the Belgian forward revealed in an unauthorized interview how he was not happy at his current situation at Stamford Bridge and would like to return to Inter Milan at some point in his career.
The interview prompted serious backlash from pundits and supporters as they felt Lukaku had disrespected Chelsea and their manager Tuchel with some advocating that the Belgian be sold in January.
It has now been confirmed that Roman Abrahamovic who bankrolled the signature of Lukaku back to the Stamford bridge after paying a club record of £97.5million has endorsed the punishment given to the Belgian striker, The Mirror reports.
Both Tuchel and Lukaku had earlier on Monday, January 3, held a crucial meeting to clear the air on the matter, according to The Express, and it has been understood that Lukaku never had the intention of causing such a controversy at Chelsea but instead wanted to rekindle his fractured relationship with the Inter supporters.
Lukaku is now set to be reintegrated into the squad for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham on Wednesday night, January 5, but only after the forward has apologized to the Chelsea fans.
