Africa U20 AFCON winner, Emmanuel Essiam has signed a mouthwatering deal with Swiss giants FC Basel from Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea.

The 18-year-old penned a four-and-a-half year deal with FC Basel after a successful first half of the season with Berekum Chelsea.

The Swiss topflight side confirmed the arrival of the teen sensation on Monday, and will immediately join the senior team after the winter break.

Emmanuel Essiam caught the attention of Basel with his outstanding performances at the Africa Youth Championship in Mauritania last year.

The versatile player helped Ghana win the tournament and was named in the team of the competition. Ghana beat Uganda to win their fourth AFCON U20 trophy.

Essiam also had a good start to the Ghana Premier League with Berekum Chelsea this season, but leaves after just 10 games.

FC Basel have a rich history with African players, with the likes of Mohammed Salah, Mohammed Elneny and Ghana's Samuel Inkoom all passing through the Swiss league.

"The knowledge of the size and history of the club, the enthusiastic fans, the national and international successes as well as the stories of African players like Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny and Samuel Inkoom, who launched their European careers at FCB, made me feel that Basel would be the perfect step for my development and my career," said the 18-year-old after completing his move.

Emmanuel Essiam becomes the first Ghanaian player to make a move in the winter transfer window.

Ghanaian forward Malik Abubakar joins Malmo FF

Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, talented Ghanaian youngster, Malik Abubakar, has joined Swedish topflight champions, Malmo FF in the summer transfer window after three years in Portugal.

The 21-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal after his impressive displays in Portugal convinced Malmo to buy him from Moreirense.
