Since 1956, France Football (French news magazine) has presented the annual Ballon d'Or award to the best player. They temporarily merged it with the FIFA World Player of the Year (the FIFA Ballon d'Or) between 2010 and 2015. Thirty players are usually shortlisted in the Ballon d'Or rankings per year. The date and time for the 2023 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony will be set late this year. The 2022 Ballon d'Or winner was announced at the Ballon d'Or ceremony on 17 October at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
Due to the new rules, the winner will be selected based on his domestic season performance rather than the calendar year. Bookies have not shortlisted their favourites to win the 2023 Ballon d'Or.
