The Germans defeated Rangers FC 5-4 on penalties after the tie ended 1-1 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville on Wednesday night.

This is the first time Eintracht Frankfurt have won a European Cup competition in 42 years. Their last victory came in 1980 when they defeated rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach on away goals to win the UEFA Cup.

Frankfurt may not have a history of African participation quite as celebrated as that of other top clubs, but some fine players from the continent have starred in the team in the past.

During his time with Eintracht Frankfurt, Tony Yeboah proved himself as one of the most devastating forwards in German football.

On two occasions with Frankfurt, he was the Bundesliga’s top scorer in 1993 and 1994.

Yeboah became the first African Bundesliga club captain. He was a pacy, powerful operator who also knew how to employ finesse when the situation called for it.

Yeboah played for the Eagles between 1990 to 1995, scoring 68 goals in 123 appearances.

The skilful midfielder signed for Frankfurt from Borussia Neunkirchen in December 1991.

Frankfurt were forced into arranging cooking classes for Rolf-Christel Guié-Mien's wife, as a part of the midfielder's deal with the club.

He was insistent that his wife take up those classes to help him settle into German football.

Guié-Mien quickly became a key player in the team's plans, scoring 19 goals in 95 matches during his three-year stay with Frankfurt.

However, Guié-Mien left Frankfurt in 2002 to Bundesliga promotion-challengers SC Freiburg.
