Formula 1 fans are in for an action-packed weekend as the highly controversial Sprint Race returns at the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.

This year's Spielberg race promises to be a showstopper, featuring the introduction of gravel traps at turns nine and ten to address the numerous track limit infringements that plagued previous events.

The iconic old-school circuit and the plethora of overtaking opportunities make the Austrian Grand Prix one of the most anticipated races on the Formula 1 calendar.

Red Bull Racing has dominated their home race in recent years, including a double podium finish in both the Sprint Race and the main Grand Prix in 2023.

However, the 2024 race presents a significant challenge for the Milton Keynes team, especially given how competitive the grid has been this season.

The narrowing performance gap between teams and traditional backmarkers adds an extra layer of intrigue and unpredictability to the race's outcome.

In light of this, Sports Brief highlights potential winners of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.

Possible winners of the Austrian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen

The 26-year-old is once again the odds-on favourite to win the race, despite not having the fastest car on the grid.

The Dutch driver's immense and impeccable skill has propelled him to victory in the last two Grand Prix races, even outpacing the super-fast, upgraded McLaren cars.

The three-time world champion who boasts the most race wins at the Spielberg track has the chance to extend his win record there.

Lando Norris

The British driver has the chance to secure what would be his second career victory in the sport.

The McLaren driver has been on an impressive streak, with five consecutive podium finishes. The 25-year-old could achieve a win at the Austrian track, a circuit that has provided him with some of his best memories in Formula 1.

Charles Leclerc

Formu1a.uno reports that Ferrari might have found a solution to their lack of pace at the Spanish Grand Prix, and there's no better place to showcase the newly upgraded SF-24 than the Red Bull Ring.

Charles Leclerc has recently been the faster of the two Ferrari drivers, and the Monegasque driver will be aiming to break Verstappen’s winning streak, much like he did at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Leclerc previously edged out the Dutch driver for victory at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix in one of the most memorable wheel-to-wheel battles between the pair.

Austrian Grand Prix preview and prediction

Sports Brief in another report provided a comprehensive preview of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix.

The Spielberg race marks the second event in the European leg triple-header, following the Spanish GP.
