The 2024 Formula 1 season resumes another lap of its European leg, with the Spanish Grand Prix on the horizon.

This iconic Catalunya race has become synonymous with high-speed drama, featuring nerve-wracking moments and beautiful overtaking actions.

The anticipation for the 2024 instalment of the race is at an all-time high, especially considering the spectacular racing action that played out at the previous race weekend in Canada.

Several teams, keen on ensuring their squad enjoys brilliant form into the mid-season break, are looking to enter the Barcelona race with several upgrades.

In light of this, Sports Brief shifts the spotlight to three teams to keep a close watch on ahead of the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix.

Teams to look out for at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing

The Austrian team has been the dominant force to reckon with over the past four seasons. However, their journey to success in the 2024 season has shown some vulnerabilities.

Despite setting a record for the most race wins in a Formula 1 season in 2023, according to data from Stats F1, the Milton Keynes-based team has yet to secure victory in more than three races out of the first nine this season.

Nevertheless, the team's head of driver development programme, Helmut Marko, has announced plans to introduce the first significant upgrades of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix.

These upgrades to the RB20 car are expected to widen the gap between Red Bull and the rest of the field.

Red Bull has historically struggled on street circuits and bumpy tracks with curbs. However, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya offers a traditional, old-school racing course where the team tends to excel.

Speculation is already rife that both Red Bull drivers could finish on the podium, putting an end to any talk of the rest of the pack catching up with them.

Mercedes AMG

The team from Brackley is one to watch closely after their impressive performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, where they secured their first podium of the season.

The German outfit, which enjoyed great success in the early years of the turbo hybrid era, has struggled since the introduction of the ground effect rule in 2022.

Mercedes has been rolling out several upgrades to the W15 Silver Arrow, but only a few seem to have made a significant impact.

However, following their podium finish in Montreal, team principal Toto Wolff, as reported by GP Blog, has hinted at further upgrades to capitalise on their positive result in Canada.

Nonetheless, the performance of these upgrades will be closely scrutinised, especially given the team's recent track record of upgrades that have sometimes proven to be less effective.

Williams Racing

The Grove team is also on our list of teams to watch closely at the Spanish Grand Prix.

The iconic Formula 1 team, which has become a backmarker in recent years, has gradually improved after a horrendous start to the 2024 campaign.

The British constructor recorded its first points of the season after shedding the excess weight that had plagued its car at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Williams also witnessed improved qualifying sessions from both drivers at the Canadian GP, with their straight-line speed being one of the best among the 10 teams on the grid.

However, James Vowles and his team suffered a double DNF during the race, as both drivers picked up damage.

The track in Barcelona offers the Williams team a chance to showcase how much improvement they have actually made throughout the season.

They will aim for a potential double-point finish, which would signal a step towards returning to the glory days they were known for.

Spanish Grand Prix preview and predictions

In another report, Sports Brief provided an extensive preview and predictions of the Spanish GP.

The race in Barcelona holds significant importance for the 2024 season as the mid-season break approaches.
