Throughout Formula 1's 74-year history, 13 drivers have clinched their world titles at the Suzuka Circuit, with Max Verstappen being the latest in 2022.

While the 2024 edition won't see any championship deciders, the timing of the race doesn't diminish its excitement.

With the Suzuka race on the horizon, Sports Brief highlights the drivers with the most wins at this historic Grand Prix.

Drivers with the most victories at the Japanese GP

Max Verstappen - Two

The three-time Formula 1 champion is largely touted to stand on the top step of the podium once the checkered flag is waved at the end of the race on Sunday.

The Dutch driver has clinched victory in the last two editions of the race in Japan, and in quite some style has he done it. The 26-year-old claimed victory ahead of Sergio Perez by over 27 seconds in 2022 and over 19 seconds over Lando Norris in 2023.

Verstappen will definitely eye another of his dominant drives this weekend as he hopes to make it win number three in Suzuka.

Sebastian Vettel - Four

The retired driver boasts the third-highest number of victories at the iconic Suzuka Circuit. Vettel's first win came in 2009, preceding his multiple drivers championship victories.

The German recorded his second win in 2010, his third in 2012, and his final victory at the Japanese race in 2013. All of Vettel's wins came during his immensely successful tenure with Red Bull Racing.

Lewis Hamilton - Five

The British driver's name is practically synonymous with nearly every significant record in Formula 1.

The Ferrari-bound driver boasts an impressive record of 103 race victories, five of which have been at the Suzuka Circuit.

Hamilton clinched his inaugural victory at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2007 while driving for McLaren-Mercedes. This triumph marked a highlight in his impressive rookie season and his fierce pursuit of the drivers' championship, despite narrowly missing out on the title that year.

The remaining four victories came in the 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 editions of the race.

Hamilton is currently in dire need of a race win, and Suzuka might just be the track for the British driver to clinch victory.

Michael Schumacher - Six

Arguably one of the greatest drivers to ever sit in a Formula 1 cockpit, the retired German boasts holding the record for the most race victories at the Suzuka Circuit.

Schumacher's first win came in 1995 during his tenure with Benetton Racing. His subsequent victories followed in 1997, and then a streak from 2000 to 2002, and finally in 2004.

According to Formula1.com, the former Ferrari driver also holds the record for the most pole positions at the Japanese Grand Prix.
