  • Formula 1 heads to the Jeddah Corniche circuit for round two of the 2024 season
  • Mercedes CEO recently promised an improved showing for his team at the Grand Prix
  • Fans have reacted to the improvement proposed by the Mercedes chief ahead of the race

The inaugural race of the 2024 Formula 1 season unfolded with a cascade of unexpected outcomes, diverging sharply from pre-season predictions.

Red Bull Racing emerged as the sole team to match their preseason forecasts, while others faltered, failing to attain their widely speculated results.

Notably, Mercedes AMG, despite promising performances in free practice and qualifying sessions, could only clinch fifth and seventh positions for their drivers.

This underwhelming display at the Bahrain Grand Prix echoed the lacklustre showings that have plagued them since the sport’s rule change in the 2022 season.

Nonetheless, ahead of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix as captured by Formula Racer, Team CEO, Toto Wolff, has promised a better showing, assuring fans that the German team will reveal their true potential in Jeddah.

However, despite Wolff's optimism, fans seem sceptical, expressing their doubts across social media about the team's ability to reach their previously attained lofty standards at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Fans react to Wolff's comment.

@patrickricu humorously pointed out,

"Mercedes have been gearing up to unveil their 'true potential' for the past three years 😂."

@Ca11um95 added cynically,

"I'm sure he's been saying that since Red Bull started dominating."

@sBinnalla64 chimed in,

"They've been 'unlocking their true potential' for the last two years."

@Neil_Pule predicted,

"He's going to say the same thing next week after they fail to perform in Jeddah."

@DunkS_91 teased,

"I am sure you'll top free practice and then fall off the cliff in the race."

@nakadick wrote,

"So you were sandbagging in a grand prix, lol."

Vettel confirms chat with Mercedes chief

In another report, Sports Brief stated that retired Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel, has confirmed he had conversations with Mercedes Principal Toto Wolff.

This report comes amid Mercedes' search for a fitting replacement for departing driver, Lewis Hamilton.

The 36-year-old, however, hinted that the discussion does not automatically translate to a potential return to the sport for him.
