- The 2023 Formula 1 season wraps up with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
- Red Bull has dominated through the majority of the season
- Sergio Perez has disclosed his immediate goal for the 2024 season
The captivating 2023 Formula 1 season concludes its thrilling journey under the lights of the Yas Marina circuit of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The season, characterised by excitement, witnessed Austrian team Red Bull assert an unprecedented dominance in the sport.
Max Verstappen secured a record-setting 18 victories, complemented by Sergio Perez's two wins, propelling Red Bull to a new record for Constructors' championship points tally.
However, amidst Red Bull's supremacy, an issue that persisted was Perez's ability to provide formidable competition for Verstappen.
The noticeable performance gap between the two teammates, who share the same RB19 machinery, generated discontent and fuelled discussions about Perez's future with the Austrian team.
Despite the mid-season uncertainties, Perez managed to salvage the remainder of his 2023 season, concluding it on a positive note.
The 33-year-old is now poised to leave behind the setbacks of the previous season, expressing his aspirations for the upcoming Formula 1 campaign during a media interaction with Motorsport-Total ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix practice sessions.
Perez discloses 2024 F1 goal
The former BWT Racing Point driver outlined his ambitions for the 2024 season, cited via RBR Daily he stated:
, "I've already got second place [in the standings]. My main goal is to get one place better, and I'm aware of the challenge that that represents."
"We need to make the most of the winter break to start the season with a good feeling and maintain this level throughout the entire season."
While Perez's ambitions are within reach, achieving them would require surpassing Verstappen, who is on the path to his fourth consecutive world championship—a formidable task for any driver on the grid.

FootballIt should be noted that Perez had expressed the same confidence early in the 2023 season about his chances of challenging Verstappen for the title, as reported by RacingNews365, but that aspiration has now become an illusion.
The battle for the 2024 championship, however, promises to be intriguing, particularly considering Perez's intention to extend his current contract with Red Bull.
