Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton has acknowledged that his teams are heading in the right direction but admitted that the car still doesn't feel at optimum as the 2023 summer break draws near.

The 2022 Formula 1 season was a real downturn for the Silverstone-based team after several years at the pinnacle of the sport, with the Silver Arrows struggling to adapt to the new regulations.

Consistently, the team has had struggles with grip and porpoising, which has translated to the German constructor winning just one race since 2022, with Hamilton failing to win a Grand Prix in a calendar year for the first time in his F1 career.

Hamilton on Mercedes’ struggles

This year, they have taken small steps to improve but are still a long way behind Red Bull and Max Verstappen, with the Austrian team winning all eight races so far in 2023.

Hamilton has had some good finishes of late, grabbing podiums in Catalunya and Montreal, but said he is still unable to drive the car exactly how he would like, despite acknowledging the improvements that have been made.

As reported by GPFans, Hamilton said:

"I've not been happy in the car for the past year and a bit.
"The step we took has moved it more in the direction I've been asking for. Slowly we're rebuilding confidence in the platform I have.
"It's still not 100%. I'm still not able to extract full potential from myself but we're getting there.
"You're just limited," he added, explaining why the car has not been great to drive.
"The stability of the car and the confidence of where you can put the car. You saw last year I crashed here and so did George.
"The car has been very unpredictable for a long time, but it's becoming more predictable which is a positive."

Hamilton's Mercedes contract

The seven-time Formula 1 champion’s contract is set to run out at the end of the season. According to reports by Sky Sports, team principal, Toto Wolf has said that Hamilton’s contract extension will be announced soon, although reports making the rounds have suggested otherwise.

Planet F1 reports the driver’s contract remains unsigned ahead of Hamilton’s home race at Silverstone this weekend, despite Wolff’s admission.

It remains to be seen where Hamilton’s future lies. The driver has previously been linked to Ferrari and rivals Red Bull.

Hamilton slides into model’s DMs

Sports Brief previously reported Hamilton has allegedly been caught sneaking into the DMs of an Instagram model.

The said Instagram model was also the same one who became a factor in football player, Neymar’s breakup.

Celeste Bright, the model, exposed Neymar for texting her despite being in a relationship with Bruna Biancardi.
