Red Bull ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix decided to spice things up with another instalment of Red Bull‘s “(Un)Serious Race Series” featuring Max Verstappen taking on Yuki Tsunoda in an extraordinary head-to-head race.

Their race vehicles were 'mega trucks', and the battleground was a fully operational iron mine in Austria. Quite surprisingly for some fans, it was Tsunoda who clinched the victory, beating the Red Bull Racing ace.

The off-roading track was not too far from the Red Bull Ring which will host the F1 race this weekend. The trucks, formidable machines of three metres in height and five metres in length, pumped out a massive 500 horsepower.

Verstappen did secure the pole position with a time three seconds faster than Tsunoda's, but it was Tsunoda who had the last laugh.

The Mega Truck showdown

The race was not without its share of fun and humour, though. Verstappen, reminiscing about his experience, and as quoted by Marca said:

"I’ve never really done anything properly off-road. I have driven my dad’s rally car, but that was more on the tarmac.
Honestly, the approach of my qualifying lap was to survive! It was a lot of fun."

Tsunoda had his own light-hearted comment. The Alpha Tauri driver was quoted by SkySports saying:

"I had a good start and used my momentum to the end. Unfortunately, he had a bit of misfiring…well actually I put a bit of water into his engine, but don’t tell anyone.

Reaction to Mega Truck race

Fans were quick to react to the hilarious moment, with one particularly hopeful fan photoshopping the Japanese driver into a Red Bull race suit.

There has been a huge amount of speculation recently over Sergio Perez's time with the team and naturally, Tsunoda has been mentioned as a possible replacement.

However, AlphaTauri team chief Franz Tost has said that he thinks Tsunoda is a couple of years off moving to the Red Bull team.

Perez reveals Verstsppen’s NFL skills

Sports Brief previously reported Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez revealed the Dutch driver’s NFL skills.

This comes after the Mexican visited NFL side Dallas Cowboys. Perez visited the Dallas Cowboys facility on Monday and found some similarities between racing and the NFL. He also spoke to the media and revealed which position he would play on the gridiron.
