FootballMohammad Shami Rips Into South African Batting Order, Twitter critical of Proteas
- Shami took five wickets for only 44 runs as he rattled South Africa's batting order on day 3 of the first test
- The South African batting performance drew the ire of Twitter users who have already given up after the first innings
- Shami's impressive performance took him to 200 test wickets in test matches and helped his team retain a healthy lead
Mohammad Shami claimed five wickets for 44 runs as India bowled out South Africa for just 197 on the third day of the first test.
Chasing India's first innings total of 327, South Africa's batting order collapsed, despite a half-century by Temba Bavuma.
A spirited fightback from the South African lower order gave the Proteas' total some respectability but they still trailed India by 130, Sport24 reported.
Shami's five-wicket haul also took him to 200 test wickets, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed on their Twitter account.
Shami's fiver give India a healthy lead
Mohammad Shami's heroics with the ball meant that they had a healthy lead as they started the second inning.
They extended that to 147 runs at the end of the day's play, losing only one wicket in the process. Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for four, but the dangerous KL Rahul remained at the crease with nightwatchman, Shardul Thakur.
Twitter users weigh in on Proteas' batting performance
There were plenty of tweets about the Proteas' batting during their first innings, with very few of them having anything positive to say. Cricket fans didn't hold back in their scathing review of the batting display.

Quinton de Kock fell just before play broke for tea, top-scoring at that stage with 34.
