There’s no shortage of action when it comes to the Ashes.
The cricket test series between England and Australia always serves up some exciting moments, whether on or off the field of play.
What is the Ashes?
The tournament officially began in 1882 when England were beaten at home for the first time by Australia, prompting a newspaper to jokingly report about the death of English cricket, BBC noted.
They joked that English cricket would be burnt, and the ashes would be sent to Australia. The joke became a reality when the next time England toured Australia, a pair of bails were burnt, and the two teams have been competing for the ashes of the bails ever since.
The two teams play at least every two years in a series of five test matches, and Australia are the current holders of the trophy. While the rivalry between the side is always intense, the fans also have a bit of fun during the games.
Fans, the English supporters in particular, always come to the ground dressed in some of the craziest costumes, and this year was no different.
BBC Sport released a video which showed Sith Lord Darth Vader being escorted out of the ground by the stewards. It’s unclear why Vader was removed from the ground, but the comments about the video have left many in stitches.
The BBC captioned the post, Ashes 2023: The Umpire Strikes Back, a clever reference to the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back movie. You can watch the full video here.
Naturally, fans have run with the angle and come up with the funniest comments about the post.
