  • South Africa's cricket captain Temba Bavuma took time off to enjoy a well-deserve break after a demanding summer
  • Bavuma led the Proteas to a surprise but amazing Test and One Day International series victory against India
  • He posted a picture of himself lazing about at home, not having to worry about dodging dangerous leather balls

South African men's national team captain Temba Bavuma was a man in need of a break, and he didn't miss the chance to take it when he did.

The 31-year-old Bavuma was in defiant and history-making form in the recent series against a formidable Indian team, delivering important knocks in the team's hour of need. The Proteas pulled off a monumental upset, winning the Test series 1-0 before whitewashing India 3-0 in the One Day Internationals.

He went on to his Instagram account to express relief at having the chance to take a breather from having red and white leather balls flying in his direction at frightening speeds. He also cheekily took a sly dig at teammates making fun of his seniority and advancing age.

The post read:

"Good to be home relaxing again. I won’t be dealing with any 140+ bowlers here or being called “malume” by anyone!"

"Malume" is an Nguni term for "uncle" and it appears it was bowler Lungi Ngidi who calls him this, with Ngidi responding with a laughter emoji.

@toastcards. responded:

"Great stuff! You deserve the break. Thanks for making us proud!"

@tubby_rsa joked:

"As for “Malume", well deserved rest, captain!"

@r.meja said:

"Rest for now, skipper... New Zealanders are waiting."

@thabzz added:

"OK malume! Enjoy your off time."

The Proteas next assignment will be in the middle of March, when they cross the Indian Ocean for a two-Test face-off against World Test champions New Zealand, as per Sport24.

Proteas coach Mark Boucher seemingly safe despite ominous racism charges hanging over his head

Proteas mentor Mark Boucher will lead the team on that tour despite the drama brewing over his gross misconduct charges connected to alleged racism.

However, as reported on Sports Brief, it was business as usual as CSA announced a 17-man squad that will head to Australasia to do battle against the Black Caps.

CSA convenor of selectors Victor Mpitsang made the announcement via a media statement, which tellingly mentioned Boucher without any hint of trouble.
