  • Anthony Joshua has been touted to take on Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury before the Year 2023 runs out
  • The British-Nigerian boxer has not fought since he lost his rematch to Oleksandr Usyk last August
  • Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has disclosed that a three-fight plan is now scheduled for the former champion

It is now confirmed that British boxer Anthony Joshua will return to the ring in the coming months, and one of Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury could be his opponent.

AJ has not fought since he lost his rematch to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk in August, as he recruited a new trainer after parting ways with Robert Garcia after just one fight together.

Back-to-back losses for the Briton mean he is no longer in the title picture for the time being, but his promoter Eddie Hearn suggests that a three-fight plan would return Joshua to the summit.

Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show as per Boxing Scene:

“The plan now is to rebuild him [Joshua] to become a three-time heavyweight world champion. The trainer will want to take the appropriate steps to do that.
"There has to be a plan, a smart plan. And the smart plan is he wants to return against a top 15 guy in a credible fight and return in the summer against probably Dillian Whyte and then move forward against Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury in a mega-fight in the autumn of 2023.
“To me, the key here is to see him box three times this year. he is in a great place mentally and I expect to see a great performance from in April.”

AJ ready for Wilder

Sports Brief earlier reported that Anthony Joshua has posited that the much-anticipated fight with Deontay Wilder will happen before he retires from boxing.

AJ and the Bronze Bomber have been touted to take on each other on several occasions, but they were unable to reach an agreement.

Joshua, the former two-time IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO title holder, is billed to return in 2023 after losing back-to-back to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk.
