Joe, whose full name is Joseph Patrick Joyce, was born in September 1985 in London, England. His parents are Phillip Joyce, a Scottish Irishman, and Marvel Opara, who is of Nigerian descent. The boxer has one brother, Torann Joyce, who is younger than him.

''The Juggernaut'' studied at Elliott School in Putney, Australia. He proceeded to Ernest Bevin College and later Middlesex University London, where he attained a degree in Fine Arts (Class of 2009). Joyce graduated with Upper Second Class Honours.

Joe is not married. However, he has supposedly been in a relationship with his girlfriend, Nadine Davidson, for several years. She is a nurse and works with the NHS (National Health Service) in England.

Joseph's boxing career debuted in his early 20s, and he has become a renowned boxer in a short time. ''What did Joe Joyce do before boxing?'' According to The Sun, the athlete tried other sports and board games before becoming a boxer. He also participated in long and triple jump before ending his career due to a recurrent Achilles heel injury.

Joe's interest in cheerleading and springboard diving sparked during his time at the Putney Leisure Centre. Although he started his professional boxing career in his 30s, Joyce says he had several advantages because of his athletic background, and he justified this saying,

boxing can be very specific and narrow, but because of my background, I already had a good understanding of athleticism, stretching and other things, good habits that can get ignored in a boxing gym. I also never had to make weight as a kid, like so many young fighters do, and we know that can stunt your growth.

Joe Joyce took up boxing at 22 years old during summer break while he was a student at the university. He would train at the ABC gym in Earlsfield, London. The athlete is on record saying he didn't enjoy boxing but loved practicing it.

Joyce spent his early years in the profession, building his skill and putting up incredible fights with formidable boxers like Oleksandr Usyk. He had several achievements as an amateur, including:

Joyce went professional in July 2017 after signing with Hayemaker Ringstar. The then 31-year-old made his debut match the same year when he headlined against Ian Lewison at a boxing event in Indigo and came out the winner.

Joe's second professional match took place in February 2018 against Rudolf Jozic, a Croatian boxer at the York Hall in London, and knocked him out in the first round. In May 2018, a challenge match for the Commonwealth heavyweight title against Lenroy Thomas was held, and Joyce knocked down his opponent thrice before the fight ended in the second round.

Afterwards, Joe challenged for the British heavyweight title and won. Joe Joyce's fight record and the win in his fourth professional match led him to break a 106-year record. Joseph is also the WBA (World Boxing Association) Continental heavyweight title holder, an accolade he bagged in 2018.

In the first attempt to defend his Commonwealth title, Joseph fought against Croatian Ivica Bacurin and knocked him out in under two minutes. In August 2018, he signed a deal with Al Haymon and made his debut in September when he beat Iago Kiladze, a Ukrainian professional boxer. He knocked him down three times, and the match ended after the third.

Regionally, he held the British, Commonwealth, WBC (World Boxing Council) Silver, and WBO (World Boxing Organization) International heavyweight titles between 2020 and 2022. He also won the European heavyweight title in 2020 and 2021.
