  • Deontay Wilder has disclosed that Anthony Joshua’s team knew he would lose the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk
  • Joshua, who was defeated by unanimous decision in his first fight against Usyk, lost the rematch by split decision
  • Wilder stated that he was invited in for insurance in a bid to ensure Joshua still goes on to fight Tyson Fury

A former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, reacted to Anthony Joshua’s second successive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua, who put up a much-improved performance in the rematch against the Ukrainian, lost by a split decision at the famous King Abdullah Sports Centre Arena in Jeddah.

Two of the judges scored the fight for the champion with scores of 115-113 Joshua, 115-113 Usyk, and 116-112 Usyk.

Moments after the bout, Wilder suggested that he was once approached about a potential fight with Joshua ahead of his rematch with Usyk, talkSPORT reports.

According to the ‘Bronze Bomber’, Joshua’s team knew the Briton would likely lose to Usyk, eventually making his fight with Tyson Fury impossible.

Wilder tweeted:

“They tried to lock me in for insurance because they knew he wasn’t going to Win. This is strictly a business, Not a sport there’s a different.”

Sportsman Height reports that Wilder, who already has more than 44 fights, also participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

He won the vacant WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title as well as the WBC heavyweight title.

Joshua demands more respect

Meanwhile, Joshua has disclosed that he never got that respect while punching his way into the heavyweight division.

He said this a month before his crucial re-match with Oleksandr Usyk as he hopes to regain his belts from the Ukrainian, which he lost again.

Back in September, Joshua lost his WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles and many were disappointed that he did not reach his potential during the fight. He has also lost the rematch.

“But I feel like I never got that respect. Nah, that's wrong. When I came into this division, it was whack.
“Alright, you know what? I'm gonna come in this game and take on everyone and anyone.”

Leon Edwards defeats Kamaru Usman

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kamaru Usman failed to defend his welterweight title in a rematch against Leon Edwards.

The desperate Edwards produced a stunning last-gasp head-kick KO to win the welterweight title against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278.

This came seven years after both fighters clashed, and in the early exchanges, Usman wasted no time in taking Edwards down as the fight got underway.
