Incredible Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has beaten world champion Danielle Williams to become the fastest woman in the world.

The 26-year-old has made a strong statement ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics and summer's biggest meetings.

Amusan stormed to win the women's 100mH at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, clocking a time of 12.40s (0.9) in a spectacular fashion.

World Champion Danielle Williams, who ran in front of the home fans, finished second in 12.46s.

It was an emphatic victory for the Nigerian superstar who finished over a top-class field, Leadership reports.

Christina Clemons of the United States finished third in 12.54s as Amusan underlined her status on the global stage.

In his reaction, Nigeria's Sports Minister, John Owan Enoh, stated that such a performance has brought home to Nigerians. He said:

"Take your flowers Tobi Amusan, you stormed to an emphatic win in the women's 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, clocking a time of 12.40s (0.9), a World Lead time!
"You defeated World Champion Danielle Williams, who came 2nd in 12.46s, while Christina Clemons was 3rd in 12.54s.
"Tobi, you keep making our country proud. Paris Olympics is around the corner, your performance gives us hope just like others, that Nigeria is set to break a jinx. Keep soaring, we are proud of you."

Amusan names in Forbes Africa 30

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian sports personalities Victor Osimhen and Tobi Amusan were named in the 2024 Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list.

The superstars earned the coveted spots not only for their sporting prowess but also due to their positive influence in their respective disciplines.

Last season, Osimhen netted 26 league goals to help Napoli to the Serie A title for the first time in more than three decades.
