Who is Emmanuel Alobwede Eseme?
Eseme was born in Cameroon on August 17, 1993. The 30-year-old runner started his career as a 200m racer, representing Cameroon for the first time at the World Athletics Championship in Doha in 2019. He failed to qualify for the semis at the championship.
In 2019, he also competed at the African Games in the 200m and the 4x100m relay but failed to win a medal in both events. He also fell short at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
After disappointments from the earlier competitions, Eseme decided to switch events, moving to 100m in 2023, clocking a personal best of 9.96s.
He then participated in the 2023 Diamond League in Poland, where he finished third, boosting his confidence for the African Games. He also won gold at the Francophone championship last year and holds Cameroon's national record in 60m, per SBBC.
