Nigerian athletes have continued to excel at the ongoing African Games in Ghana, with the 4x400m mixed relay team winning gold and setting a new record.
The mixed quartet, comprised of Emmanuel Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel, Patience George, and Omolara Ogunmakinju, claimed the gold medal ahead of the favourites, Botswana.
Ogunmakinju, in particular, put on a show for Nigeria in the final by making up for a 15-metre deficit to swing past the Botswana anchor with just 30 metres to go in the race.
The quartet also set an African record time as they finished the race in 3:13.26, with Botswana settling for silver in a national record time of 3:13.99, according to a report by Making of Champions.
