On Tuesday evening, BBC Sport sparked a heated debate on social media when they compared Kylian Mbappe's speed to Usain Bolt's 100m world record.
Football and athletics fans on social media slammed the post, claiming the French football superstar would never match the sprinter's world record time.
According to BBC Sport, the World Cup winner clocked 10.90 seconds in a 100m dash during PSG's UEFA Champions League clash against Real Sociedad. The 25-year-old bagged a brace as the French giants reached the quarter-final.
Running 10.90 seconds in football is fast, and only a few players at the highest level can do that. Mbappe's speed is one of the reasons why he is arguably the best player in the world.

To put that time in context, only three athletes, Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Tyson Gay, have run under 9.70 seconds in the men's 100m. Thousands of sprinters have run under Mbappe's 10.90 seconds.
In the women's all-time list, he would be the 63rd on the list. The fastest woman clocked 10.49 in the 100m, per World Athletics.
However, Mbappe can still go faster if he was on the track wearing spikes. Bolt also holds the 200m world record and 4x100m relay world record.
Bolt vs Mbappe reactions
There were mixed reactions from track and field and football fans to the controversial comparison.
"Do y’all not understand how big of a difference that is?"
"1.3 seconds is a light year's difference lol - stop making these comparisons."
"Wow I bet if Mbappe trained his speed he could run under 9.58 and be faster than Bolt."

Formula 1"And he’s doing that running with a ball. Now imagine him doing a pure 100m race alone."
"Did I miss the memo where everyone agreed to start making meaningless Usain Bolt comparisons?"
Bolt on his world record
Sports Brief earlier reported on the Jamaican sprinter outlining what it would take to break Bolt's 100m and 200m records.
He shone from 2008 until his retirement in 2017, having won eight Olympic golds and with 11 world championship victories.
