  • The six-time World Champion has been under Adidas' wings since the 2016 Olympics trials
  • Lyles will be in action at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, this weekend

Noah Lyles has extended his contract with Adidas, which will run well past the 2028 Olympics scheduled for Los Angeles in the United States.

Lyles and Adidas have had a working relationship since the American first went pro in 2016. The relationship has been successful, catapulting Lyles to the top of the world as one of the best track and field stars.

The press release did not give the exact amount of the deal, but it confirmed that it 'was the richest contract in sports history since the retirement of Usain Bolt.'

"When I first signed for Adidas in 2026, it was like a dream come true. Today is just a continuation of that childhood dream. Adidas is not only taking care of me and my family, but they also understand my vision - not only do I want to achieve all I can in this sport both and off track, but I also want to make a real change and improvement in the sport and how it's run."

Bolt needs no reintroduction, as he remains the best sprinter the world has ever seen. The multiple world and Olympic champion dominated the field from 2009 to 2017, winning eight gold medals at the latter.

Can Lyles replicate Bolt's successes?

Lyles is seen as the next possible person to challenge for Bolt's throne, whose world records in the 100m and 200m races remain intact.

The 26-year-old swept the gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year, where he won the 100m and 200m before anchoring Team USA to victory in the 4 by 100m.

His focus later this year will be to claim a first Olympic gold medal in Paris. He finished third in the 200m in Tokyo 2020. He has won three consecutive 200m world titles.

He will, however, first be in action this weekend at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, where he will lead USA's medal hunt in the 60m.

Kipyegon, Lyles nominated for Laureus Awards

Sports Brief has also reported that Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the 2023 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year.

Kipyegon broke three world records in the space of two months before reclaiming her 1500m world title and winning the 5000m in Budapest.

Lyles headlines the men's list alongside football stars Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.
