  • World Athletics is set to release a documentary on sprinters in collaboration with Netflix
  • World champions Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley are reported to be the stars of this series
  • Lyles has been impeccable this season as he chases a third consecutive 200m world title

Noah Lyles will reportedly headline a new Netflix documentary series currently being filmed, along with a list of other top athletes.

This show is said to have the full blessing of World Athletics, with a camera crew following the sprinters at their various events this season.

The crew was at last weekend's Diamond League meeting in London, where Lyles dropped the fastest time over 200-metres this season, with Letsile Tebogo and Zharnel Hughes setting the African record and British record, respectively.

The Netflix show is part of the plan by World Athletics to increase the reach of the sport globally. Daily Mail has reported the governing body wishes to replicate what Formula 1's Drive to Survive did for fan growth across the world.

Apart from Lyles, World 100m champion, Fred Kerley, and former World 200m champion, Dina Asher-Smith, are also set to feature. However, the official name and release date of the show are yet to be released.

The developments come less than 20 days away from the World Athletics Championships in Hungary. Lyles will be attempting to complete a double in the 100m and 200m.

Should he retain his title over the latter distance, he will become only the third person after Usain Bolt and Allyson Felix to win three consecutive gold medals in the discipline.

Lyles breaks Bolt's records

Speaking of Bolt, the win in London saw Lyles pull off clear of Bolt's record for most wins in under 20 seconds in 200m races. Before the race, they were tied at 34 each.

Sports Brief reported on the American also setting a new meeting record, breaking the Jamaican's standard of 19.76 seconds he set on the same course back in 2008.

With Lyles being only 26 years old and appearing to be in the sprinting form of his life, many are expecting him to widen the gap over Bolt even further in coming races.
