- Tobi Amusan has landed in potential trouble after she was charged with flouting anti-doping rules
- The Nigerian made the revelations herself, citing that she allegedly failed to provide three drug tests
- Amusan remains optimistic that she will be cleared to participate in the World Athletics Championships next month
Tobi Amusan has revealed that she has been charged with a doping violation after she missed a couple of tests in the last 12 months.
The news of the women's reigning 100m hurdles world champion and world record holder broke out in the early hours of July 19.
Amusan has been charged with a whereabouts violation after she failed to submit three tests.
"Today, the Athletics Integrity Unit has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having missed three tests in 12 months. I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators."
It is set to come as a major setback with the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, now exactly one month away.
The Nigerian has insisted that she is a clean athlete and revealed her plans to have her name cleared before the championships.
"I have faith that this will be resolved in my favour and that I will be competing at the World Athletics Championships. I am a clean athlete and I am regularly tested by the AIU."
What has Amusan been charged with?
Amusan's charges could see her get a ban of up to two years if found guilty, as NBC Sports reports. An athlete is supposed to get tested regularly and provide the Athletics Integrity Unit with his or her location at all times to allow for random testing where necessary.
The World Athletics Anti-Doping Code of Conduct stipulates an athlete will be hit with an anti-doping violation should they miss three drug tests.
