Incredible Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, ran her fastest time this year to finish third at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, the Czech Republic.

The 26-year-old recorded a season-best (SB) time of 12.47 seconds, with Olympic Champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn finishing strong to win in 12.42s, ahead of American sensation, Tia Jones, in second (12.44s).

This was Amusan’s fastest performance this season as she improved on her previous SB time of 12.57s, clocked at the Racers Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Many believe the Nigerian world record holder is beginning to return to her best ahead of the Lausanne Diamond League event slated for June 30.

She will compete against heavyweight hurdlers like Camacho-Quinn, Jones, and one of the most improved athletes of this season, Alaysha Johnson, Pulse reports.

Amusan made history in 2022

Meanwhile, as Sports Brief previously reported, Amusan made history in 2022, becoming the first-ever Nigerian to win gold at the World Athletics Championships.

Not only did she dust others in her category, but she also a new record in the semi-final with a time of 12.12s, smashing Kendra Harrison’s record of 12.20s.

Amusan even went further in the final to record 12.06s, but this was disallowed by the World Athletics Integrity Unit as the wind speed was over their parameters.

Amusan bags Masters Degree

Sports Brief also reported that Amusan recently completed her degree at the University of Texas in El Paso, in the United States of America.

The Nigerian world record holder in the 100m hurdles captured moments from her graduation ceremony to the delight of Instagram fans.

The 26-year-old narrated how her journey to the Master's qualification had started, adding that she had been inspired by her mentors.
