Family spokesman Jeremiah Sawe said the deceased's husband, Emmanuel Ibrahim Rotich, the prime suspect in her murder, plans to sell some of the property secretly.

"We want to ensure the property is safe, though we are grieving for the loss," Daily Nation quoted Sawe.

Sawe revealed that one of the late runner's plots had been sold off for KSh 9 million.

"Documents show one of the plots was recently sold at KSh 9 million. The house in Iten where she was murdered, is in the suspect's name," Sawe revealed.

The family spokesman said Athletics Kenya (AK) and Nandi senator Samsom Cherargei promised legal services.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, with stab wounds on her neck and abdomen.

She left behind six parcels of land at Kesses in Uasin Gishu county, a plot and a house at Kipkorgot estate in the outskirts of Eldoret and a car.

The family earlier revealed the runner gave her husband everything.

According to the family based in Kapnyamisa, Mosoriot in Nandi county, Rotich's name was attached to all estates owned by the duo.

The deceased's brother Josephat Keter described Rotich as a selfish man.

"It is so painful that you take my sister's life just for money. Manu (Emmanuel) was a selfish person. He had everything. He was pampered more than the family members," Keter said.

Strained relationship

Keter disclosed that the duo's relationship started deteriorating after she jetted from the Tokyo Olympics, where she emerged fourth in the 5,000 meters race.

"When she came back, she found out that her husband was cheating on her with other women. That was the genesis of their troubles and they parted ways. Agnes came home and informed us that she and Emmanuel had a strained relationship," said Keter.

The suspect, however, convinced her to return to their home on Monday, October 11, where she eventually met her death.
