Prior to the 1500 metres race final, Kenyan athletics fans had cut a frustrated figure. For a country which is known for its dominance in long-distance races, Kenya was yet to win a gold medal at the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
The nation's hopes rested with one Faith Kipyegon, who was seeking to reclaim a World title she had won in 2017.
And boy, she did not disappoint. Kipyegon almost led from gun to tape to win Kenya's first gold medal and send the nation into a frenzy. She stamped her authority in her speciality as she became the first woman to win four medals at the World Championships.

Kipyegon has been a dominant figure in athletics since 2014. She has either won or come in second at every major championship she has participated in since 2014. At the Tokyo Olympics, she became the second woman in history to win back-to-back Olympic titles.
The mother of one took a break from running in late 2017 and gave birth to her daughter, Alyn. She made a comeback at a major championship in Doha, Qatar, where she finished second behind Sifan Hassan.
Her fastest time to date remains a 3:51.07 that she ran in 2021 in Monaco. This was just a few seconds shy of Genzebe Dibaba's world record of 3:50.07. This also means that she missed the World record by just two seconds in her latest victory in Oregon.

Nyaga did not have running shoes a few days before her race. Kipyegon stepped in and bought her shoes. Nyaga repaid Kipyegon's faith and won the 10,000 metres race in Mauritius.
Now a double World and Olympic champion, Kipyegon always rises to the occasion. At just 28 years of age, she will be seeking to make unprecedented history at the Paris Olympic Games by winning a third consecutive gold medal.
Sports Brief has reported that Faith Kipyegon affirmed her credentials as the best-ever athlete in the 1500 metres race as she bagged her fourth outdoor title at the World Athletics Championships.
Kipyegon won Kenya's first gold medal at the event after she held off Gudaf Tsegay to cross the line first.
The Olympic champion became the first woman to win four outdoor medals at the event. She used a time of 3:52:96 to reclaim a title she won in 2017.
