- Judith Jeptum was in fine form during the Paris Marathon on Sunday, April 3, as she won the race in a record time
- The 26-year-old braced the cold conditions of the French capital to shatter Purity Rionoripo's record of 2017 to win the race
- Ethiopia's Fanti Jimma had to settle for a second-place finish, with her compatriot Besu Sado completing the podium
Kenyan long-distance runner, Judith Jeptum, is the winner of the 2022 edition of the Paris Marathon.
Jeptum won the Sunday, April 3, race after she clocked an impressive 2 hours, 19 minutes and 48 seconds, a new course record.
The 26-year-old had to contend with the unseasonably cold conditions of the French capital to win the race.
How Judith Jeptum stormed to victory
The Kenyan marathoner headed into the race fresh from setting a personal best time of 2:22.30 back in November in Abu Dhabi.
Despite the harsh weather conditions in Paris, Jeptum managed to soldier on to storm to victory in a record time of 2:19:48 – one minute and seven seconds off the previous record set by Kenya's Purity Rionoripo five years ago.
Speaking after her victory, Jeptum admitted the chilly conditions took a toll on her performance, adding that it was not easy to win the race.
"In the beginning, the weather was very cold, and it is very difficult to run in 2 degrees, but I tried my best," she said as quoted by Euro Sport.
“From 6km, I tried to push a lot but it was not easy," she added.
Ethiopia's Fanti Jimma finished second in 2:22:52, with her compatriot Besu Sado completing the podium 20 seconds later.
Deso Gelmisa wins the men's race

His compatriot Seifu Tura had to settle for a second-place finish with Frenchman Morhad Amdouni claiming third place in a French record time of 2:05:22.
