FootballHarry Maguire Blames Carrington Training Ground Closure for Man Utd's Poor Display Against Newcastle
- Harry Maguire blames Carrington training ground closure for Manchester Utd's abject display against Newcastle
- Maguire believes that the closure of Man United's training ground had a huge impact on their performance last night
- It was an overall abysmal performance from Man United who had over two weeks to prepare for this match
Man United captain Harry Maguire has highlighted the closure of Man United's training ground as a reason for their poor performance in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle at St James Park.
Ralf Rangnick's men were lucky to get a point in the game where they were largely second-best.
Allan Saint-Maximin danced past two defenders and curled home past David de Gea in the 7th minute to give Newcastle the lead.
But Edinson Cavani came off the bench to grab the equalizer for Man United in the 70th minute as both teams shared the points.
United will have David De Gea to thank for his crucial saves in the game.
But it was an overall abysmal performance from Man United who had over two weeks to prepare for this match.
Meanwhile, Covid has swept through the Premier League and has affected a lot of teams, Man United inclusive.
And Maguire has now claimed that some of United stars just recovered from the virus as they have also been unable to train at their training ground.
He was however quick to insist it was no excuse for their performance.
Maguire said: “The training ground has been shut, half the lads playing today are recovering from the virus.
"So, of course, it is not going to help us. We don't want to use it as an excuse, but, of course, it has a big impact on the game.”

FootballOne of the talking points from last night will be Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes' abysmal display as both stars failed to come to the party for United.
They were both guilty of complaining several times in the game, despite the fact they were far from their best.
Ronaldo again opted to head straight for the tunnel at the final whistle instead of going over to thank the fans who made the trip to the North East, a reaction which made Neville angry.
