The Blues were desperate to secure three points during the trip to revive their slim title hopes.

Romelu Lukaku was the man of the moment as found the back of the net to inspire the west Londoners to a vital win.

However, Chelsea had to come from a goal down to secure the victory after Reece James directed the ball into his own net to hand the home side the lead in the 26th minute.

Jorginho drew the visitors level in the 34th minute as he slotted the ball from the penalty spot to ensure both teams head into the break level.

Thomas Tuchel rang tactical changes at the interval as he introduced Lukaku in place of Trevoh Chalobah.

The substitution made a significant difference as the Belgian handed the Blues the lead in the 56th minute after curling an inswinging cross towards the six-yard line.

Mason Mount had a chance to put the game beyond the hosts in the 66th minute but missed the glorious opportunity.

Jorginho capped off his impressive performance with his second goal as he fired home from the spot after Villa conceded a penalty at the death.

The win revived Chelsea's title hopes as they are now on level with Liverpool with 41 points after 19 rounds of matches.
