As Itumeleng Khune's contract with Kaizer Chiefs nears its end, the veteran goalkeeper is faced with a critical decision about his future.

While rumours swirl about his potential role as the team's next goalkeeper coach, Khune has clarified that he's not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

The 36-year-old has set his sights on playing until he's 40, and former Amakhosi goalkeeper, William Shongwe, believes he still has what it takes to succeed.

Shongwe, who played alongside Khune at Chiefs, thinks the veteran goalkeeper should take on a new challenge and prove himself with another team.

"For me, I think Khune still has the quality to offer. Some goalkeepers play until they are 40 internationally, and if he has an opportunity, I will say, 'Go, go prove yourself with another team. If Chiefs are dropping you, maybe you're not good enough, go play somewhere and see what happens," Shongwe said, as quoted by The South African.

Khune's recent three-month suspension, following allegations of arriving at training under the influence of alcohol, has raised questions about his performance and dedication.

Shongwe believes the shot-stopper's ability to save the team still exists, but his recent form has been inconsistent.

As per Briefly News, seven players, including Khune, are set to leave the club this summer, and the team is already scouting for new talent.
