Fulham defender, Calvin Bassey, has praised manager Marco Silva after the team's impressive 10th clean sheet of the season.

The Cottagers played out to a barren draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, May 5.

Bassey, who has started all but one of Fulham's matches since returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has been a rock in the team's defence.

The centre-back started the game with compatriot Alex Iwobi and was instrumental in the Cottagers' solid defensive display, which has become a hallmark of the Portuguese manager's tenure.

With two games remaining, the club has guaranteed its Premier League survival, but it is unlikely to finish in the European places.

Despite this, Bassey is optimistic about the future under the 46-year-old tactician.

"The disruption didn't help at times, but we've all stayed focused and trusted the manager and the plan. What he's been building has been amazing, so we're looking forward to the future. It's important we bring those principles and carry on what the manager has built here," he said, as quoted by All Nigeria Soccer.

His consistency has earned him a nomination for Fulham's Player of the Month award for April, alongside Andreas Pereira, João Palhinha, and Rodrigo Muniz.

The 24-year-old has made 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal in February, per WhoScored.

Bassey helps Fulham sink Man United

Sports Brief reported that Bassey was among the scorers in Fulham's 2-1 win over Man United in the Premier League.

He had recently returned from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria disappointedly lost the final to hosts Ivory Coast.

It was head coach Marco Silva’s first win away at Old Trafford in the Premier League, and he got it in a dramatic fashion with a late winner courtesy of Alex Iwobi.
