Samson Siasia has disclosed he did not apply to become the next Super Eagles coach after being linked as one of the managers to have applied for the vacant position.
The Nigeria Football Federation had called for applications for the Super Eagles head coach role after parting ways with former coach Jose Peseiro who led the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to The Guardian, Siasia explained that he could not apply for the Super Eagles job as his FIFA ban is yet to expire making him ineligible for the vacant role.
“I did not apply for the Super Eagles coaching job because I know FIFA has yet to lift the suspension on me. I don’t know where those who reported that I applied got their story from. It’s common sense, I cannot be suspended and be applying for a job.”

Siasia’s ban will be over officially in August 2024 which means that he is not permitted to take a managerial job in the next five months.
Why did FIFA ban Siasia?
Siasia was banned from football-related activities by the world football governing body FIFA for five years for alleged match-fixing which the former Nigeria Olympic coach denies, Naija News reports.
In August 2019, the former Nigeria coach was found guilty of an offer to receive bribes in an attempt to manipulate matches following an outcome of an extensive investigation by the football body.

FootballSiasia was initially handed a life ban from FIFA but in 2021 after his successful appeal, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) reduced his life ban to five years and also dismissed the 50,000 Swiss Francs he had been ordered to pay.
Siasia breaks silence on FIFA ban
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Siasia says he has learned his lesson following the FIFA ban that has kept him away from all football-related activities since 2019.
The former Super Eagles coach once accused the Nigerian Football Federation of abandoning him over his ordeal with FIFA.
Siasia is one of the coaches linked with the vacant Super Eagles job although he claims he is ineligible to apply for the position because of the FIFA ban.
