  • Cristiano Ronaldo was helpless as Al-Nassr lost 3-1
  • It was the 3rd game running without a win for his side
  • In the course of the game, he tried to motivate his mates

Cristiano Ronaldo's frustration was palpable as he witnessed Al-Nassr's unexpected 3-1 defeat to underdogs Al Raed in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday evening.

The Portuguese star returned to action in the Saudi top flight after serving a one-match ban for his controversial gesture against Al Shabab. However, his presence failed to turn the tide for his team, who continued to struggle.

Al Raed worsen Al-Nassr's plight

Despite their near-perfect record against Al Raed, last losing to the Buraidah-based club in 2016, the Knights of Najd found themselves in a tough battle at Al-Awwal Park.

Karim El Baerkaoui's early goal in the 18th minute set the tone for what would be a tough match for the home side and later culminated in a startling defeat, per MARCA.

Regardless, Lusi Castro's men managed to equalise through Ayman Yahya six minutes later, but Mohammed Fouzair's goal early in the second half swung the momentum back in favour of Al Raed.

According to GOAL, the visitors further compounded Al-Nassr's woes, with Amir Sayoud sealing the unexpected victory.

Ronaldo tries to motivate his teammates

While Al Raed celebrated their remarkable achievement, Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, appeared visibly distressed.

Despite his attempts to rally his teammates, their performance fell short, leaving him feeling disheartened as they suffered their first home defeat of the season.

What's next for Ronaldo and his teammates?

After back-to-back defeats across all competitions, Ronaldo would hope his side will be back to their best when they host UAE Pro League side Al Ain in the reverse fixture of their AFC Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Knights of Najd are trailing in the tie and must rediscover the form that saw them go through the group stages and the round of 16 without tasting defeat.

Ronaldo runs out of luck against Al Raed

In a related publication, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo endured a forgettable game as Al-Nassr suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat against Al-Raed at home.

The Portuguese star was unlucky to see two of his shots hit the post in each half, including a trademark free kick that narrowly missed its target.

Despite his determined performance, Ronaldo couldn't rally his team to victory, leaving Al-Nassr's title aspirations diminishing.
