FootballManqoba Mngqithi: Kaizer Chiefs Set to Miss Out on Deal, Negotiations With Mamelodi Sundowns Ongoing
- Kaizer Chiefs' pursuit of Manqoba Mngqithi seems uncertain
- The manager's agent confirmed talks with Mamelodi Sundowns
- Mngqithi's future remains undecided as discussions progress
Kaizer Chiefs' hopes of landing senior coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, seem to be fading.
Mngqithi, the senior coach for Sundowns, is nearing the end of his contract, making him an attractive prospect for other clubs.
However, his agent, Mike Makaab, has confirmed that discussions with Sundowns are still in progress.
Makaab disclosed that talks had begun regarding Mngqithi's future at Masandawana.

Despite speculation that Amakhosi might swoop in for the coach once his contract expires, Mngqithi appears content at Sundowns.
“Manqoba is happy at the club. We’ve said this all along. Now, it just depends on us coming to an agreement with the Football Club to extend his contract. It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned but I’m hoping that within the next seven to 14 days, within the next couple of weeks, we’ll have more clarity on Manqoba’s future," Makaab said, as quoted by Gagasi World.
While the Glamour Boys continue their search for a new coach, it seems unlikely that a decision will be made until the end of the season. Cavin Johnson will remain interim coach until the season's end.
Reports emerged last month suggesting Premier Soccer League side AmaZulu were also interested in Mngqithi. However, the gaffer is said to have expressed a preference for Chiefs.
"The Kaizer Chiefs job appeals to him more, but don’t be surprised if AmaZulu comes calling again if things don’t go according to plan with their current coach," a source to close to the coach said, as quoted on The Citizen.
Mngqithi hails Bafana after beating Morocco
Sports Brief reported that Mngqithi reacted to South Africa's victory over Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16.
Bafana booked a place in the quarter-final after their 2-0 win over the Atlas Lions on Tuesday, January 30.
