  • Real Madrid have reportedly decided to end their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe
  • The French star snubbed Los Blancos in two consecutive summer windows
  • The forward's current deal with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in 2024

Real Madrid have ruled out the prospect of acquiring Kylian Mbappe, even if he were to depart Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the upcoming summer.

The forward has been courted by Los Blancos for several years but turned them down to sign a new contract with PSG in May last year, despite reports claiming he had agreed to join the Spanish giants.

As reported by the Spanish publication, CadenaSER - via Football Espana - Real Madrid have decided to bring an end to their pursuit of the highly-rated forward.

The Spanish giants are said to view the saga as concluded and will not make further efforts to entice Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium - regardless of his circumstances.

Although the Frenchman's contract with PSG is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, the club is eager to prevent losing him for free by negotiating an extension.

Why Real Madrid won't sign Mbappe

According to GOAL, Madrid will refrain from pursuing Mbappe for three main reasons, even if the Frenchman chooses to depart the Ligue 1 champions next summer.

To begin with, he is expected to request a minimum annual salary of €20 million, along with a substantial signing bonus should he arrive in Madrid without a transfer fee.

Additionally, his age is a factor to consider, as Mbappe would be 26 years old upon joining Real Madrid and the club tends to prioritise signing younger players, as evidenced by their acquisitions of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and the incoming striker Endrick.

Lastly, Los Blancos have expressed concerns over the exorbitant contract PSG has committed to Mbappe, fearing the substantial financial investment could lead to fan unrest and economic challenges for the club.

Vinicius wants Mbappe at Real Madrid

However, Vinicius Junior is keen to play alongside Mbappe and has urged Madrid to sign the 24-year-old forward in the near future, Daily Post reports.

The PSG forward has been strongly linked with a transfer to Los Blancos, creating expectation among the players who greeted this with excitement.

Vinicius also described Mbappe as possibly the best player in the world at the moment and stated everyone at Real Madrid wanted to have him there.

PSG plan on keeping Kylian Mbappe

Meanwhile, Sports Brief has also reported on Mbappe and PSG's summer contract standoff being resolved before the season started.

The club are reportedly looking to give the French superstar one last contract offer until 2025 but will insert an exit clause for 2024.

Moreover, PSG will look to sell Mbappe in January if he declines to sign the deal, with the 24-year-old heavily linked with a move to Spain.
