Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been urged to drop Gabriel Martinelli ahead of the Gunners' Premier League encounter against rivals Man City.

The Wednesday night clash comes at a time Arsenal are in dire need of a positive result to get their title charge under control.

Arteta's charges have dropped points in two of their most recent fixtures, with a possible defeat against City leaving them in danger of losing their spot on top of the standings.

According to The Mirror, only three points are separating the two teams ahead of the Emirates Stadium showdown as the Premier League title race hots up.

Arteta told to drop Martinelli

Former Premier League star Shaka Hislop has now advised Arteta to consider dropping Martinelli for the clash.

Hislop contends that the Gunners are better off lining up with January signing Leandro Trossard, who bagged his first goal for his new side over the weekend against Brentford.

"I don’t think Gabriel Martinelli has been great lately. When he has come on, Leandro Trossard has had an impact. So, if you’re Arteta, I think the time is right to think, 'Well, do I now play Trossard from the very start?' Hislop told ESPN.
"So, the easy change, I think, given the form of Trossard, given the fact that he’s finally got on the scoresheet for Arsenal, is that you have to play him from the very start," he added.

What Arsenal needs to win title

Sports Brief earlier analysed what Arsenal must do to win the Premier League title, and it all borders around outwitting Manchester City.

The Gunners need to beat the record points for a league champion, 100 points set by Pep Guardiola's men in the 2018/19 season, a team current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was a part of.

They must also pick up maximum points in their two legs against the Citizens starting tomorrow night at the Emirates Stadium.
